My Hometown

I have lived in my hometown my whole life except for the short time my Dad was in the military stationed in Columbia, S.C.  I was a baby, so I do not remember.  The only other time I have lived outside my hometown is the three years and four months my hubby, daughter, and I lived in Colorful Colorado.  I just turned 47 years old this month, so it is safe to say I have lots of memories here in my hometown.  We arrived back in Alabama on March 15, 2005.

Moving away made me realize how few pictures I had of my hometown.  When you live somewhere all your life, you really do not think about things like that.  Alabama is not called Alabama the beautiful for nothing.  We have sandy white beaches on the southern coast and mountains in the northern part of the state.  Of course, after living near the Rockies in Colorado, Alabama's mountains are more like foothills, but beautiful, nevertheless.

I would move back to Colorado in a heartbeat.  I was very happy there.  I felt like a bird that had been let out of a cage after spending most of my life here in the deep south.  I drank in Colorado's beauty each and every day.  I never tired of the beautiful snowcaps, the many sunny days (Colorado has over 300 days a year of sunshine), or even the snow.

It rarely snows in east central Alabama where I grew up and presently reside; however, Alabama boasts many lakes and provides a playground for those who love the water.  If it is beaches you love, head due south.

My Mom lives on a lake in a quaint little cottage not too far from me.  They have a nice place and own a boat.  We love spending time out there during the hot part of the year.  My stepfather takes us on boatrides and will pull my daughter on a tube behind the boat.  Sometimes, she brings friends to swim.  My Mom/stepdad have a paddleboat which we always have fun in.  They used to have a water trampoline until someone busted it.  Of course, noone confessed.  They also have an outdoor fireplace they just finished.  We will really enjoy that when the cold weather comes back in!  We had a nice halloween party at the boathouse this past October.  It was loads of fun (pictures are posted).

My Mom and Stepdad feed the fish daily.  You would not believe the HUGE carp that come up to feed, and the catfish, lots of bream too (we say brim here in the south, lol).  I saw the biggest catfish I have ever seen come up to feed when we were out there a few days ago.

Our area boasts museums full of history, many historical sites, camping and fishing, as well as several golf courses for all the golf fanatics out there.  Are you reading this, Sharon?

I will have to do another entry on what the State itself offers, but if ya wanna come visit, be prepared for the heat!  We are in the heart of Dixie and we have NINE months of summer accordin' to cousin Jessie.  Hee..............

Have a great Friday, all!~

Blessings!~

Susan

beautiful pictures of your hometown, Susan. I bet it is pretty down there; and I'm sure hot in the summer as you described. Someone said something about a town in Montana the other day; they said it has two seasons - winter and July.

I hope one day you can get back to Colorado and stay this time; perhaps retire there or perhaps a cabin you can retreat to for rest and recuperation; one can dream, right?

betty

your home town pictures look familiar to me.  I am close to the Alabama line and occasionally travel down for shopping in Scottboro and LaFayette. or maybe it is Lafayette....lol. anyway, we have lots of heat and humidity here in my part of TN too.  But it is beautiful here on the TN river.  and i would miss it if i lived somewhere else.  except maybe Colorado!  tina http://journals.aol.com/pippa1116/SteelMagnolia
