My Handsome Prince
Let's go back in time, shall we? Lets say........oh...about 30 years......(and yes, I am a little bit early with the story, but who cares? It's a great story).
On April 29th, 30 years ago, my best-half, Donnie, was in his twin brother Ronnie’s wedding. The guy, David, who played the piano for the wedding told Donnie, "I know a little girl who has been wanting to meet you."
Now truth be told, we had already met once at a singing at a local church where these two attended. At that time, David and Donnie were in a gospel group together. David played the piano, Donnie played the drums. Our first encounter was in February 1978. We were introduced that night and I left that night knowing I would see him again. I had a curfew and had to be home so I had to leave before the singing was over. Donnie was actually on stage playing when I had to leave. I looked back at him and smiled demurely all the while thinking to myself, "I will see you again, Donnie!" And, yes he did smile back, although he was currently dating someone else.
Fast forward to April 29th of that same year. David brings Donnie to see me. We all go into my bedroom and we are playing records. I told him he was lucky he caught me at home because I was usually out partying. Me and my BIG FAT mouth! Automatic turnoff, as his previous GF had been a partier and he wanted no part of that lifestyle. He lived a Christian life and played drums in a Gospel group, for goodness sake!~
A few days went by and I didn’t hear from him. My sister’s boyfriend was good friends with Donnie. I asked him why I had not heard anything else from Donnie. He said he didn’t know but would find out. He called Donnie and Donnie explained that a previous GF had been a party girl and he wanted no part of that lifestyle. My sister’s BF explained that I was actually a very good girl, but I had just come out of a bad relationship and this was the way I was choosing to drown in my sorrows (I would go out to the nightclubs and dance and even drink a little bit, not to the point of getting drunk, but we always had a designated driver anyway I am proud to say). I loved to dance, still do, but today I dance at home and I no longer do booze at all! He told him my father was a minister and I had been brought up well.
This sweet man, being the person that he is, came back to see me, not really to date me, but to "get me back into the fold," so to speak. He asked me to go with him to his singing that weekend and I gladly obliged. We spent the next two weeks together as much as possible, during which time we found out we had a lot in common and had the very same goals in life. He was very attractive, I don’t mind telling you that. After a date one night, we were standing in my parents driveway. It was a beautiful starlit night, he was getting ready to kiss me goodnight.
We were talking and all of a sudden he says, "Do you really think you could spend the rest of your life with me?"
I replied, "There is no doubt in my mind, whatsoever."
Keep in mind we had only been dating two weeks. To make a long story short, we were married five months later on October 7th, and the rest is history.
The rest of the story:
After getting married on October 7, 1978, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy on August 6, 1982, who has grown into a fine young man and a beautiful baby girl on May 23, 1992 who is growing into a beautiful young lady wise beyond her years. My family have been the greatest blessings in my life!~
I feel very blessed to have found my soulmate. The thing I love most about him is he knows me better than anybody, he knows all my faults, he knows my strengths, yet he continues to love me. He is the one person in my life that has made me feel beautiful. I have always had a low self-esteem, but he tries to build me up. He is the same way (has a low self-esteem) and I try to do the same thing for him by building him up. I always tell him I have faith in him, even if he doesn’t have it in himself. So, I posted the Lyrics to John Michael Montgomery’s beautiful song, "I Swear" in honor of the 30 years I have spent with the love of my life.
I Swear as recorded by John Michael Montgomery
(Frank J. Myers/Gary Baker)
I see the questions in your eyes I know whats weighing on your mind But you can be sure I know my part cause Ill stand beside you through the years Youll only cry those happy tears And though Ill make mistakes Ill never break your heart
I swear By the moon and stars in the sky Ill be there I swear Like the shadow thats by your side Ill be there For better or worse Till death do us part Ill love you with every beat of my heart I swear
Ill give you everything I can Ill build your dreams with these two hands Well hang some memories on the wall And when theres silver in your hair You wont have to ask if I still care cause as time turns the page My love wont age at all
I swear By the moon and stars in the sky Ill be there I swear Like the shadow thats by your side Ill be there For better or worse Till death do us part Ill love you with every beat of my heart I swear
I swear By the moon and stars in the sky Ill be there I swear Like the shadow thats by your side Ill be there For better or worse Till death do us part Ill love you with every beat of my heart I swear I swear
I just want to say to my husband:
<FONTSIZE=4>After 30 years, you still melt my butter, baby. I love you with all of my heart and soul, my whole heart. It belongs to only you and will always be that way. You are God’s plan for my life. No regrets.
All my love forever and always,
Suse
